GM used one of two different remotes in 2001 and they do not interchange. Please check the numbers on the back of your current remote to make sure they match this one. If you are sure you have the factory RKE system and you do not have a remote, there is no way to tell which one you need for 2001. Your only option is to buy both, and return the one that does not work for a refund. We cannot tell you which one you need, nor can the dealer.
***2001 Chevrolet Astro and GMC Safari can use this KOBUT1BT remote or the KOBLEAR1XT remote. Check your old remote to be sure which one to order. Ordering the wrong one will not work. If you don't have a remote to look at then look at the part number on the receiver. The receiver is located in the dash behind the radio and below the defroster grill. If the receiver says part number 15042969 then you need [FCC: KOBLEAR1XT 4 Button]. If the receiver part number says 15732806 then you order this remote. The Astro and Safari are onboard programmable so programming instructions are included with the remote.
****2001 Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy can use this KOBLEAR1XT remote or the KOBUT1BT remote. Check your old remote to be sure which one to order. Ordering the wrong one will not work. If you don't have a remote to look at then call your local Chevy dealer parts department and give them your VIN number and ask for the part number of the keyless remote your vehicle uses. The Blazer and Jimmy are onboard programmable to programming instructions are included with the remote.
*****The 2001-2002 Aurora had two possible systems. If you don't have a remote to compare to then look for the receiver. The receiver is located by the rear window shelf near the rear speakers. If the receiver's GM P/N ends with 073 then use this remote. If the receiver's GM P/N ends with 053 then use [FCC: KOBLEAR1XT 4 Button]. Visit an automotive locksmith to program your vehicle to accept the remote.
